# Grundstein Antike

Grundstein Antike at Altes Museum, Tuesday 27 October 2026, until 10 Jan.

"Grundstein Antike" is a special exhibition at the Altes Museum on Museum Island about the beginnings of Berlin's first museum ([smb.museum](https://www.smb.museum/ausstellungen/detail/grundstein-antike/)). It is presented by the Collection of Classical Antiquities of the Berlin State Museums and shows sculptures, vases, bronzes and terracottas that were already on view in the first display of 1830. The exhibition covers Karl Friedrich Schinkel's building and the social setting of the museum's opening in a rising bourgeois society. It also looks ahead to the period after the urgently needed general renovation of the house.
