Sofie Dawo. Textile Experiments is a special exhibition of textile works at the Kunstgewerbemuseum at Kulturforum. It is a special exhibition of the Kunstgewerbemuseum – Staatliche Museen zu Berlin, showing 22 works by the textile artist Sofie Dawo (1926–2010) together with selected works on paper, made possible by loans from Jochum Rodgers, Berlin. Dawo's unconventional strategy involved enhancing fabric by destroying it, cutting, knotting and enriching threads with metal, nylon or polyester, so that the manufacturing process was inscribed into the object itself. Devoid of any function or application, these free textile experiments resist being classified as either art or craft, and they often reach into the room as textile sculptures.
