# Winterspelt 1944

Winterspelt 1944 at Zeughauskino, Monday 26 October 2026, 19:00.

"Winterspelt 1944" is Eberhard Fechner's only theatrical film, from 1978, based on Alfred Andersch's last novel. It tells of a Wehrmacht officer who, in the autumn of 1944 in the Eifel, tries to surrender to the Allies with his battalion without a fight. The film was praised for its careful research and reconstruction, but also criticized for oversimplifying Andersch's reflections on guilt, responsibility and fate. Since it ran in only a few cinemas and remains hardly accessible today, it is very rarely seen.
