By Design is a film about Camille, a woman who envies a beautiful showroom chair so much that she swaps forms with it, only to find she is better liked as an object than as a person. Unable to speak or move, she ends up in the hands of Olivier, a minimalist bachelor who grows romantically fixated on her. The absurdist body-swap fable, narrated by Melanie Griffith, mixes deadpan humor, surrealist flourishes and interpretative dance numbers. It was made by filmmaker Amanda Kramer and stars Juliette Lewis, Mamoudou Athie and Samantha Mathis.
