# James McMurtry

James McMurtry at El Lokal, Monday 26 October 2026, 20:20.

A concert evening at the El Lokal club by the Sihl with singer/songwriter James McMurtry. The Austin, Texas artist presents his eleventh album, 'The Black Dog & the Wandering Boy', a meditation on aging and death in ten raw story-songs. Rolling guitars, barroom harmonies, banjo fragments and a hurdy-gurdy accompany the songs, created with Don Dixon, who worked on the first two R.E.M. albums. McMurtry, cited as a formative influence by younger songwriters like Jason Isbell, ranges from sparse folk through bone-dry country to solid roots rock.
