Alles vorwärts-los! Fotografische Perspektiven auf Wassersport und Politik

The exhibition Alles vorwärts-los! Fotografische Perspektiven auf Wassersport und Politik is on view at the Wassersportmuseum Grünau in Berlin-Grünau. It draws on the extensive photo collection of the Sportmuseum Berlin and explores how photographs make the close link between sport and politics visible. Taking the history of water sports on the traditional regatta course at Grünau as its example, the pictures show athletes and their triumphs as well as the imperial splendour of the regattas, controlled press photographs and collectible images from the Nazi era, and private pictures from the Weimar Republic that mirror processes of democratisation and emancipation. Selected sporting events, photographs and photographers bring out these different aspects.
