Biermann
About
"Biermann" is a documentary about the life and work of the poet and singer-songwriter Wolf Biermann. Jens Meurer, a winner of the European Film Award and the Golden Globe, traces Biermann's biography as an immediate, close-up retrospective, combining personal memories with political contemporary history. At its center are Biermann's origins, his turn to music, his work in the GDR, the Cologne concert of 1976 and its consequences, and his artistic work up to the present. The camera follows the 90-year-old at meetings with young artists, politicians and his family, weaving the footage into a collage of historical documents and previously unpublished archive footage.
