About

»Blauwale – Die Rückkehr der Giganten« is a 3D documentary about the largest mammals ever to have lived on our planet, whose tongue alone weighs as much as an elephant. Hugh Pearson's film follows two scientific expeditions: a risky mission to find a blue whale population not seen for 50 years, and the research of the »whale whisperer« Diane Gendron, who studies in the Gulf of California in Mexico the crucial role these remarkable animals play in the health of our oceans. Passing dolphins, sharks, orcas, sea lions and turtles, the film shows the overwhelming beauty of the ocean and its inhabitants and reveals insights of nature that deeply move and astonish.

Critics

Praised are the majestic whale footage and the atmospheric, wonder-filled opening. Faulted is a sluggish mid-section that saps the film's momentum.
