Chopin – Eine Sonate in Paris
Chopin: A feature film about the composer in Paris.
About
"Chopin - Eine Sonate in Paris" is an elaborately staged feature film, a biography of the composer Frédéric Chopin. It was directed by Michał Kwieciński, written by Bartosz Janiszewski, and stars Eryk Kulm in the title role alongside Joséphine de La Baume and Victor Meutelet. The film tells of Paris in 1835, where the 25-year-old Chopin is celebrated as the star of the salons, while behind the radiant glamour hide a fragile health and a melancholy inspired by longing for his Polish homeland. He falls in love with the writer George Sand, experiences creative highs and painful crises with her, and the weaker his body becomes, the more determined his musical will grows, culminating in the late Nocturnes and piano sonatas.

Critics
Critics praise the atmospheric opulence, visuals, musical modernisation and the lead performance. They fault a schematic dramaturgy, shallowly drawn relationships, and that the music itself receives too little attention.
