About
The crime film ›Fargo‹ by the Coen brothers tells of Jerry Lundegaard, who in snowy Minnesota hires two kidnappers to abduct his wife, hoping his father-in-law will pay the ransom and free him from his precarious finances. As the situation escalates and deaths mount, the pregnant, unshakable police chief Marge Gunderson takes the case. The film premiered in 1996 at Cannes, where Joel Coen received the prize for best director, and won two Oscars, a BAFTA and two Critics Choice Movie Awards. Before the screening, Elisa Jochum, head of the film archive of the Deutsche Kinemathek, introduces the film.

Critics
8.4Very good
Critics praise the dry black humor, the original characters and McDormand's performance, calling the film rich and witty. Faults mentioned are implausible plot details and occasional affectation in tone.
