Frau Winkler verlässt das Haus

"Frau Winkler verlässt das Haus" is a feature film, a bittersweet tragicomedy about care, loss and human resilience in an increasingly technological world. It was written and directed by Doris Dörrie and stars Angela Winkler, Laura Tonke, Klara Lange, Yvonne Yung Hee, Joseph Reichelt, Zoë Baier and Via Jikeli. It tells of Frau Winkler, an 80-year-old former actress who in 2030, after her husband's death and an accident, is cared for by a nursing robot she names Pawlowitsch. An unexpected friendship develops between her and the robot, which recites Chekhov beautifully, yet the robot also transmits her vital data to a health system, and it promises to stand by her.

Critics praise the sensitive acting, the quiet humour and the moving blend of warmth and melancholy. They fault dialogue that feels artificial and a story lacking coherence.
