heimaten – Festival für die plurale Demokratie 2026

heimaten – Festival für die plurale Demokratie 2026 is the second edition of a decentralized festival taking place from September to November 2026 at venues across Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. It was initiated by Haus der Kulturen der Welt and is carried by the heimaten Network, a group of civil society initiatives and cultural institutions. The festival rejects the idea of a single, unchanging home and focuses on belonging and democratic participation, on memory culture and decolonization, and on the history and present of migration in European metropolises. Its programme spans talks and discussions, exhibitions, performances, readings, workshops, concerts, film screenings, guided tours and city walks.
