„Ick sitze hier und esse Klops“ is a programme of couplets and cheeky rhymes from old Berlin. Frank Dittmer (recitation, song) and Johannes Gahl (piano) present uproariously funny rhymes in the folk style, from Glaßbrenner's „Nante“ to Bleibtreu's „Bier bleibt Bier“, combined with the tongue-in-cheek couplets of the great local composers and delightful piano wit. Along the way appear the unemployed odd-jobber and the barrel-organ man, the potato-dumpling eater and the moon man in purest Berlin idiom. The programme shows that the Berliner is hard to beat for self-irony, quick wit and cunning.
