About

A screening of the film Days of Eclipse. Aleksandr Sokurov adapts the Strugatsky Brothers' 1977 novel One Billion Years to the Ends of the Earth: a young doctor posted to a remote Turkmen town in the dying days of the Soviet experiment finds his research into religious faith and medicine confounded by mysterious encounters and ill omens. Switching between sepia and colour, documentary footage and invention, the film paints an oblique portrait of the end of Soviet empire, with a remarkable lead performance from Aleksei Ananishnov.
