About

An exhibition of black-and-white photographs by Roy DeCarava, titled 'the sound i saw', on view at the David Zwirner gallery. Curated by Ebony L. Haynes, it brings together more than 130 images made between the late 1940s and the 1960s, pairing scenes of everyday life in New York with portraits of jazz musicians. The works, all printed by the artist himself, are presented in an intimate, darkroom-like setting, with an adjacent listening room inspired by the work. An opening reception takes place on the evening of the first day.
