About
Sunset Boulevard is a 1950 film directed by Billy Wilder, starring William Holden, Gloria Swanson and Erich von Stroheim. An aging silent film queen refuses to accept that her stardom has ended and hires a young screenwriter to help set up her movie comeback. The screenwriter believes he can manipulate her, but he soon finds out he is wrong. His ambivalence about their relationship and her unwillingness to let go leads to a situation of violence, madness, and death.

Critics
9.1Outstanding
Critics praise the performances, especially the leads, the sharp narration, and the film's dark, absorbing take on Hollywood. Faults are rare: a few find the framing device contrived or the tone overly clever and pretentious.
