About
THE LUNCHBOX is a film by Ritesh Batra, led by performances from Nimrat Kaur and Irrfan Khan. Lonely housewife Ila prepares a special lunch for her neglectful husband, but Mumbai's lunchbox delivery system mistakenly delivers it to Saajan, an irritable widower approaching retirement. On discovering the mix-up, Ila slips a note into the next day's lunchbox, beginning an unlikely correspondence between two strangers who gradually share their hopes, disappointments and memories. It is a tender, funny and deeply human story about loneliness, connection and the unexpected possibilities of everyday life, which received a BAFTA nomination for Best Film Not in the English Language.

Critics
7.6Very good
Critics praise the tender, understated story of loneliness and connection, the strong lead performances and the director's sensitive debut. Some fault the slow pace and an ending that leaves the relationship unresolved.
