About

Tru is a one-man play about the writer Truman Capote at a moment of scandal and isolation. Jay Presson Allen wrote it from Capote's own words, and Jesse Tyler Ferguson plays him, directed by Rob Ashford. Set in December 1975, it shows Capote alone in his New York apartment, shut out by his wealthy friends after excerpts of his novel Answered Prayers exposed their secrets. Over ninety minutes without an interval, he looks back on his career, relationships and mistakes while struggling with loneliness, alcoholism and addiction.
