About

Bethany Collins takes part in the group exhibition "We Are This Land: Meditations on the Great American Experiment" at the Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum at Michigan State University in East Lansing. The exhibition fills the museum's main galleries and is organized around five topics: civics, history, family and kinship, map-making, and care for the environment. Its title quotes "Bless this Land," a 2019 poem by former US poet laureate and Indigenous activist Joy Harjo, an important influence on the show. Guided by American democratic ideals of participation and experimentation, it invites visitors to consider their own role in conversations about the past and future of the United States, on the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
