“Mind Child” is an exhibition of new and recent paintings, monotypes, works on paper, and jewelry by the American artist Josh Smith at Galerie Eva Presenhuber in the Maag Areal. At its center is the recent series “Destiny,” in which Smith transports the figure of the Grim Reaper from historical pictorial tradition into the present—for instance as a cyclist riding through the streets of New York. In parallel, the gallery shows a selection of works by Dieter Roth, whose approach has long been an important reference for Smith. The exhibition also presents “Stage Paintings,” which extend painting into space, alongside works from 2024 with a distinctly print-like quality.
