The Librarians

“The Librarians” is a documentary about librarians, parents and other committed people in the USA who resist books being removed from libraries. It portrays people who stand up for the right to free information despite threats, intimidation and, in some places, even criminalisation. The film was directed by Kim A. Snyder. Afterwards there will be a conversation with the writer Usama Al Shahani and the moderator and expert on children's and young adult literature Claudia Sackl.

8.5Outstanding

Critics praise the urgent, gripping portrait of librarians fighting book bans and its striking visual style. Some fault a hectic pace and lacking analytical depth.
