The Lighthouse

The Lighthouse is a film in the drama, fantasy, horror and mystery genres. It was directed by Robert Eggers and stars Willem Dafoe, Robert Pattinson, Valeriia Karaman and Kharmel Cochrane. It tells of two men on a lonely lighthouse and the merciless dance between madness and power. Shot in coarse-grained black and white in a nearly square format, it conjures an unsettling mix of myth, fairy tale and sailors' yarn, showing how isolation washes the darkest depths of the soul into the light.

7.7Very good

Critics praise the powerful lead performances, striking black-and-white cinematography in a nearly square format, and the eerie, skillfully crafted atmosphere. Some fault the film's forced eccentricity and a slow, suspenseful-thin story that tests patience.
