Cantadoras I: Sofia Jernberg
Deutsche Oper Berlin, Bismarckstraße 35, 10627 Berlin, Charlottenburg
About
"Cantadoras I: Sofia Jernberg" is a concert by the celebrated Swedish-Ethiopian soprano, performer and composer Sofia Jernberg. She moves between contemporary composition, noise, free jazz and experimental vocal art, with a voice spanning five octaves from guttural growl to crystalline overtones. The concert opens the new series "Cantadoras", which brings together outstanding women artists who radically ask what a voice can be – ritual, resistance, myth, memory and healing. In its first season the series unites Tuvan overtone singing, Persian vocal traditions, Carnatic music, Ukrainian polyphony and Ethiopian-Swedish vocal art.
