About

“Daniel Chodowiecki 1726–1801” is a cabinet exhibition at the Gemäldegalerie on the Kulturforum. The Kupferstichkabinett is presenting it to mark the 300th birthday of Daniel Nikolaus Chodowiecki, one of the most celebrated Berlin artists of the late 18th century, together with the Akademie der Künste, Berlin, and the Gemäldegalerie of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin. More than twenty works from every phase of his career are on view, among them the pieces around “Der Abschied des Jean Calas von seiner Familie” brought together from three collections, and red chalk portraits of a Berlin Enlightenment circle including Friedrich Nicolai and Moses Mendelssohn. The exhibition is curated by Mailena Mallach, Anna Schultz and Sarah Salomon, and forms part of the “Chodowiecki 300” network.
