About
Das Sonnensystem is a themed section of the permanent exhibition at the Museum zur Himmelskunde in the Archenhold-Sternwarte. Its centerpiece is a 283.5-kilogram fragment of the meteorite that formed the Barringer Crater in Arizona, a piece made entirely of nickel-iron that visitors may touch. Models, panels and texts convey current knowledge about the Sun, the planets and minor planets, meteorites and comets. The section also shows the telescope with which amateur astronomer Karl Ludwig Hencke discovered the minor planet "Astraea" in 1845.
