About

The documentary »Gestern Mitte Morgen – Yesterday Mitte Tomorrow« is a portrait of the alternative culture scenes in Berlin's central district of Mitte after 1989. It was written, directed, shot and edited by Peter Zach, who will be present; it was produced by PZF Produktion in co-production with ZDF – Kleines Fernsehspiel, featuring Mark Ates, Guy Bettini, Christine Hill, Yuko Kaseki and Sasha Waltz, among others. In the early 1990s, in the so-called Spandauer Vorstadt near Friedrichstrasse, young international artists found an affordable, freely inhabitable space in the empty houses of the former border zone, a freedom that had already vanished in their expensive home countries. The film tells of these people, the places they lived, their longings, everyday life and their art – of those who lived almost without money and felt this part of Berlin to be their personal centre of the world.
