About
A screening of the anime film AKIRA. Directed by Katsuhiro Ôtomo and starring Mami Koyama, Mitsuo Iwata and Nozomu Sasaki, it is a landmark cyberpunk classic. In 2019 megalopolis Tokyo, gang leader Kaneda races his motorbike through urban wastes until his friend Tetsuo is taken by the army after an encounter with a strange boy. When experimental procedures awaken a destructive new power in Tetsuo, Kaneda sneaks into the research lab to free him, while his friend is consumed by madness.

Critics
7.6Very good
Critics praise the dazzling animation, detailed designs and kinetic energy, calling it an anime landmark. They fault a convoluted, hard-to-follow plot, a slow and talky pace, and an over-the-top ending.
