Godzilla

About
Godzilla is a Japanese monster film in which a rampaging radioactive beast, born of a nation reeling from nuclear attack and H-bomb testing in the Pacific, becomes an international icon of destruction. Directed by Ishirô Honda, it stars Takashi Shimura, Akira Takarada and Akihiko Hirata. The roaring granddaddy of all monster movies is also a remarkably humane and melancholy drama, and it spawned almost thirty sequels. Its poignant beast embodies an entire population's fears.

Critics
9.0Outstanding
Critics praise the film as a powerful, humane monster movie with genuine drama and a serious anti-nuclear message, calling it bleak yet compelling and finely acted. Little is faulted, aside from its grim tone and the inferior American recut.
