About

Caméra d’Afrique is a landmark documentary history of African cinema. Made by Férid Boughedir, it traces the rise of African filmmaking after independence, following a generation of directors who challenged colonial images of the continent and told their own stories. Through archival footage, film excerpts and interviews with pioneering directors, it charts the movement's political and social struggles and its search for new cinematic voices and forms. The film remains an essential portrait of the birth of modern African cinema and of the filmmakers who changed how Africa was seen on screen.
