About

'Cloud 9' is a bold revival of Caryl Churchill's landmark play at the Lyttelton - National Theatre. Written in 1979 by British playwright Caryl Churchill (Top Girls), it is a razor-sharp, audacious satire on colonialism, gender, power and the legacies of empire. It follows Clive, a colonial administrator and patriarch in Victorian-era British-colonial Africa, whose family and servant struggle to live up to expectations, before the same characters find themselves in 1979 London confronting a world where empire lingers and freedom calls. Directed by Dominic Cooke (Mrs Warren's Profession), the production stars Rebecca Humphries, Eloka Ivo, Tom Mothersdale, Charlotte Ritchie, Ellen Robertson, Stuart Thompson and Sam Troughton.
