About

"Suchness" is an exhibition of new paintings by Japanese artist Daichi Takagi, held in The Upper Room at the David Zwirner gallery in London. It is Takagi's first solo presentation in the United Kingdom and his first exhibition with the gallery. The title describes a state in which things simply are as they are; the 2026 paintings range from small canvases of rain or cloudy night skies to larger close-ups of stones, leaves and tree trunks emerging from velvety black backgrounds. Takagi, who collects stones and leaves on walks near Tokyo and further afield, seeks to give form to the presence of his subjects rather than interpret them.
