About
A screening of the film "Down by Law". Director Jim Jarmusch's follow-up to Stranger Than Paradise, described by him as a 'neo-Beat noir comedy', brings together three hapless men – an unemployed disc jockey (Tom Waits), a small-time pimp (John Lurie) and a strong-willed Italian tourist (Roberto Benigni) – whose chance meeting in a Louisiana prison leads to a singular adventure. The film features cinematography by Robby Müller and performances from Tom Waits, John Lurie, Roberto Benigni, Nicoletta Braschi and Ellen Barkin.

Critics
7.3Very good
Critics praise the striking black-and-white cinematography and Benigni's energetic comic performance. They fault the thinly written female roles and the disc's overly sharp restoration degrading interior scenes.
