About

A launch screening of DOWN TERRACE followed by a Q&A, with a free signed fanzine for every ticket holder. Ben Wheatley's 2009 debut follows father and son Bill and Karl, who return from prison to their Brighton home convinced someone in their small criminal operation betrayed them, as suspicion, old resentments and sudden violence fill the family kitchen. The film turns the British gangster story into cramped black comedy about a family destroying itself, made for less than £10K. The evening celebrates the launch of Wheatley's fanzine film & television Thoughts & notes 5, the Low Budget issue, which unpacks the thoughts, processes and mistakes behind the film and includes an interview with Charlotte Regan about making her debut feature Scrapper.

Critics

6.6Good

Critics praise the naturalistic acting, dry dark humour, and the way mundane domestic realism refreshes the gangster genre on a tiny budget. They fault slow, talky stretches, sparse plotting with narrative gaps, and a tone more alienating than comic.
