About

A residency at Gasworks by artist Ghyzlène Boukaïla. Combining film, immersive installation and sculpture, her practice questions the thresholds of reality and fiction, drawing on historical and archival research to challenge existing narratives. At Gasworks she will focus on material research for her next film, which explores the Mediterranean Sea as a territory and its reappropriation, following a maritime smuggler whose acts of piracy become gestures of refusal. Boukaïla, born 1993 in Algiers, lives and works in Algiers.
