About

A residency at Gasworks by the photographer and visual artist River Claure, who makes constructed portraits and magical landscapes. He is from Bolivia, and his work reflects on landscape, Christian iconography, his family's history and his Indigenous roots, often creating with communities and using play to rearrange cultural codes, identities and social expectations. During the residency he plans to develop a series of self-portraits exploring the intersections between biblical iconography and the Latin American colonial photographic archive, visiting archives and museums in London to study the history of portraiture and self-representation. The residency is supported by the Contemporary Bolivian Arts Trust (CBAT).
