About

Cavernous Shoal is a season-long residency installation in the lobby and community space OPEN ROOM, opening with a live performance by Ibrahima Mbaye. Artist Jesús Hilario-Reyes, who works across sonic performance, land installation, and expanded cinema, fills the space with a bespoke sound system and a sculpture of mangrove roots. Inspired by DJ culture and shorelines between land and sea, it imagines the dancefloor in Black diasporic club culture as a place of perpetual transformation, where belonging emerges through movement rather than permanence. During the residency the artist hosts open decks, performances, conversations, workshops, screenings, and experimental sound activations.
