About

"Jason Stopa | Open Window" is an exhibition of ten new abstract oil paintings at Morgan Lehman Gallery, with an opening reception on the evening of the first day. The Brooklyn-based painter and writer Jason Stopa, in his second solo show with the gallery, makes paintings that treat the picture plane as a window, with frames, lattices, and interlocking forms that play on looking through and looking at. The works use thin gestural washes, a more subdued palette, and surfaces layered like ancient Greek ceramic glaze, alongside a yellow grid wall painting that carries the window idea into the gallery's architecture. The show engages with the vocabulary of Modernism and the interplay between viewer and object, revealing how sensory experience is both static and fugitive.
