Rushmore
The Metrograph, Ludlow Street 7, 10002 New York, Manhattan
About
A screening of the film "Rushmore." Wes Anderson's 1998 comedy stars Jason Schwartzman as Max Fisher, a 15-year-old student obsessed with extracurriculars who believes he is competing with industrialist Bill Murray for the affections of teacher Olivia Williams, all while facing sudden death academic probation. It is a deeply funny, deeply melancholic, class-conscious comic fable dressed in prep school navy blue and the muted colors of north Texas autumn, thrumming with British Invasion anthems.

Critics
8.3Very good
Critics praise the film's inventive style, its mix of comedy and sadness, and strong performances from its leads. Some find it self-indulgent and its awkward teenage hero hard to warm to.
