The Tower
Ortega y Gasset Projects, 3rd Avenue 363, 11215, Brooklyn
About
The Tower is a group exhibition at the art space Ortega y Gasset Projects in Brooklyn, with an opening reception on its first evening. It is curated by Adam Liam Rose, the venue's co-director and an artist, and brings together work by some two dozen artists exploring the symbolic meanings of the tower, from aspiration toward the divine and the Tower of Babel to the Tarot card of upheaval and surveillance. Through painting, drawing, sculpture, textile, ceramic, performance, video and photography, the artists consider how height relates to power, authority and transformation, including intimate and queer associations. The exhibition is activated by endurance performances in which Peter Cage is plastic wrapped to a sculpture by Nicholas Knight on Saturdays, and a digital catalog will follow at a closing event.
