Boyhood

"Boyhood" is a feature film made over a decade in yearly shooting stages, in which a child genuinely grows up on screen. From 2002 the American indie director Richard Linklater met his ensemble every year, and their changes became part of the staging. At the centre is Mason, who has to cope with his demanding sister Samantha and his divorced parents; Ethan Hawke plays the father and Patricia Arquette the single mother. The coming-of-age film sketches childhood and growing up tenderly, and just as soberly ageing and letting go.
