About
„Grenzen, Gewalt, Geschichte“ is a free themed tour through selected exhibition rooms of the museum presenting rare objects from its collection that illustrate German division, flight and violence. The tour spans from a family's flight into Reformed exile during the confessional split of the Holy Roman Empire to a border stone of a city divided after 1914 on the German-Dutch border. Its highlight is the original diary of the student Peter Rutzen from 1963, which traces the dangerous attempt to dig an escape tunnel under Bernauer Straße. The tunnel was betrayed to the Stasi before anyone could flee, leading to numerous arrests in East Berlin.
