La Calisto
Staatsoper Unter den Linden, Unter den Linden 7, 10117 Berlin, Mitte
About
“La Calisto” is an opera by Francesco Cavalli, a masterpiece of Venetian Baroque opera from the middle of the 17th century with a libretto by Giovanni Faustini. At its heart is love, the mightiest of passions, which drives gods, nature spirits and humans into confusion and entanglement. Director Stefan Herheim stages the colourful kaleidoscope of words and sounds in a “baroque science fiction” aesthetic, while Christina Pluhar and her ensemble L’Arpeggiata unfold the magic of the music. The production is a co-production with MusikTheater an der Wien.
