About
“Tadellöser & Wolff” is a two-part television film from 1975, shown in a screening with an introduction by film and television historian Jan Gympel. For the adaptation of Walter Kempowski's autobiographical novel, broadcaster ZDF won director Eberhard Fechner. The two-parter tells of the life of a shipping family from Rostock between 1939 and 1945, between conformity and reluctant distance from National Socialism. Following the source closely and with tragicomic moments, it shows “big” history from the perspective of “small” people and was greatly welcomed by press and audiences.

Critics
Critics praise the humorous, faithful adaptation, its huge success and awards, and the detached documentary approach. Little is faulted; only overly emotional treatments of similar material are implicitly criticised.
