About

Rooted Out is a darkly comic two-part drama set over one increasingly volatile day during the 2024 UK riots. Written and directed by Freddie Hutton-Mills, it follows two middle-class couples whose seemingly ordinary neighbourly dispute over a tree spirals into a devastating confrontation about race, class, identity and belonging in modern Britain. Unfolding almost in real time across two adjoining suburban homes, the film combines the intimacy of a chamber piece with escalating psychological tension and uncomfortable humour, exploring the fault lines beneath contemporary liberal Britain. It was officially selected for Raindance Film Festival 2026, and this screening is followed by a live Q&A with the writer and director.
