About

KŌPŪ is a theatre show in which the wāhine of the company weave live music, performance, poetry, and poi into a hilariously honest, no-holds-barred account of their femininity on their own terms. It comes from Te Pou Theatre, a kaupapa Māori performing arts company and venue from Aotearoa (New Zealand), and was originally commissioned by Auckland Arts Festival. Written by Tuakoi Ohia and directed by Amber Curreen, it shares the songs of young wāhine Māori navigating the world, following in the footsteps of their naughty nannies from the marae. The 75-minute show has been called a hilarious celebration and gut-wrenching 'me too sis' to wāhine.
