Sans Soleil
The Metrograph, Ludlow Street 7, 10002 New York, Manhattan
About
Sans Soleil is a film directed by Chris Marker, shown at Metrograph. It is a voyage through memory, history, and video games, a free-flow of images shot largely in Japan, with detours to Guinea-Bissau, Iceland, and San Francisco. There is nothing quite like it in the history of cinema.

Critics
7.5Very good
Critics praise the film's meditative, unclassifiable essay form and its fascinating reflections on memory, technology, and image-making. Detractors find it self-absorbed, pretentious, and sometimes banal, with dated video effects and material that feels indulgent.
