Rape

"Rape (Voldtekt)" is Anja Breien's feature film debut, a 1971 production from Norway. After a woman is attacked in the snow and a second rape attempt follows in an Oslo suburb, suspicion falls on Anders, a young road worker who is taciturn, uneducated, without an alibi, because the crime scene lies on his route to work. With documentary precision, the film tells through interrogations and a court hearing the story of a man who becomes ever more deeply entangled in the machinery of Norwegian justice. Breien's staging shows the rigid procedures in which victims matter only as witnesses, revealing a system where the institution takes precedence over the very bodies it is meant to protect.
