La séparation

"La séparation" is a 1994 film by Christian Vincent. It tells of Anne (Isabelle Huppert) and Pierre (Daniel Auteuil), an unmarried couple with a two-year-old child whose relationship falls apart when Anne confesses she has fallen in love with another man. Pierre oscillates between bewilderment, repression and violent outbursts, until a reconciliation trip escalates into violence. Time Out Magazine calls the adaptation of Dan Franck's novel a study of a disintegrating partnership, its tiny shifts of power, in which both Huppert and Auteuil excel.
