Automatenbüfett
Deutsches Theater, Schumannstraße 13a, 10117 Berlin, Mitte
About
"Automatenbüfett" is a play in three acts with a prologue and epilogue by the Austrian author Anna Gmeyner, written in 1932 and directed by Jan Bosse at the Deutsches Theater Berlin. It tells of the business-minded landlady Mrs. Adam, who runs a modern automat buffet offering food, drinks and music at the push of a button, while she is on her feet from morning to midnight. Her dreamy husband Leopold does not help in the business but sits by the fishing pond, devising an idea to supply the suffering population with cheap protein in the form of farmed carp. When he pulls a young woman named Eva, who had tried to take her own life, from the water and she then helps out as a waitress and becomes a crowd magnet, things start to move.
