Der Geizige

»Der Geizige« is a theatre production at the Schaubühne am Lehniner Platz. It is directed by Thomas Ostermeier, who for the first time stages a play by Molière, in a version by Maja Zade and Thomas Ostermeier, with Lars Eidinger playing the title role of the miserly Harpagon. It tells of the widowed Harpagon, whose adult children suffer under their father's obsession with saving and decide for the first time to resist their tyrannical father, while he worries about a buried cash box and plots marriages of his own. The play is about a man who, through his greed for money and his love for a younger woman, tries to fight against death and transience.
